University Students" Experience of Noise Exposure by Personal Audio System

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological research was to identify university students" experience of noise exposure by personal audio system.

Methods: The participants of this study were fourteen students who was at two university in Chungcheong. Data was collected through tape-recorded in-depth interview individually from participants. It was analyzed using a phenomenological methodology by Colaizzi.

Results: From significant statements, ten categories were identified as follows: sound of intentional purpose, sound in one"s everyday life, sound in one"s own world, adaptation oneself to sound, other"s advice for hearing problems, concern for information of hearing problems, recognition of noise, no more sound, emerging from noise, self-control of noise, and being bound by noise.

Conclusion: We need more study on the development for experience of noise exposure by mixed methods, qualitative to quantitative methods.
